Did you know most parrots have favorite colors, and may be fearful or avoid other colors? To figure out your feathered friend’s individual color preferences, place him in a confined area with 6-7 identical children’s colored wooden or plast…ic blocks/balls. Note the colors he avoids and those with which he plays. Remove the objects in the colors he ignores/avoids. Repeat this test several times to verify his preferences. His positive colors can be used in other items in his environment, and can increase the success of training. Using favorite colors can also help the parrot feel more comfortable with toweling. To teach your bird acclimate to towel restraint for his veterinary visits, start with “hide and seek” with a towel in his preferred color.
