Attention clients with cat allergies:
Purina Pro Plan has just launched a new diet, LiveClear, after more than a decade of research, a cat food that can reduce allergens in a pet cat’s coat to help reduce symptoms experienced by human family members with cat allergies.
Fel d 1 is the protein that most people allergic to cats react to. This protein is produced by the salivary glands in the mouth and oil-producing glands in the skin. The Fel d1 protein is spread around the coat during grooming, then it spreads around the home when the cat sheds.
The new LiveClear diet contains an egg protein that binds and neutralizes many of the Fel d 1 proteins in the mouth while the cat is eating, so less of it gets spread onto the coat and shed.
The diet doesn’t neutralize all of this protein or stop the cat from producing it, but the allergen load in the home is reduced enough to help many allergy sufferers. Because we don’t yet know why cats make the Fel d 1 protein, researchers did not want to stop cats from making it completely.
The egg product used to neutralize the protein is safe for cats to eat. The effect only happens in a cat’s mouth; once it’s swallowed, the egg protein is digested just like any other protein ingredient.
Pro Plan LiveClear is available in 3 flavors–Chicken & Rice, Salmon & Rice, and Sensitive Skin & Stomach Turkey & Oatmeal.
